The Dakota Woodturners sponsor a Hands-on Woodturning Symposium each year in April. The symposium consists of a Friday evening introduction of the guest demonstrators followed by two hands-on sessions on Saturday and one on Sunday morning. In each session the demonstrator develops a project, stopping along the way to provide individual instruction to the participants. By the end of each session the participant will have a learned all of the procedures necessary to complete the demonstration project and hopefully a number of new turning techniques. 2010 Hands-on Woodturning Symposium The 2010 Symposium will be held on Aprilt 9-10-11, 20-10 at the BSC Vo-Tech Building in Bismarck, ND Scheduled demonstrators are Stuart Batty, Rex Burningham and Cindy Drozda. Click on the above link for details. 2009 Hands-on Woodturning Symposium The 2009 Symposium was held on April 3-4-5, 2009 at the BSC Vo-Tech Building in Bismarck, ND. Demonstrators were: Greg Haugen, Tom Larson and Don Wattenhofer. Click on the link above for details. 2008 Hands-on Woodturning Symposium The 2008 Symposium featured professional wood turners Dick Sing, Gary Gardner and Keith Gotschall. Click on the above link to see details of the 2008 Symposium. 2007 Hands-on Woodturning Symposium The 2007 Symposium featured Colorado professional woodturners Pete Holtus, Lee Carter and Steve Dejong. The link above shows some of the actual hands-on demonstrations and instant gallery. The 2006 Symposium held March 31, April 1 &2nd featured Trent Bosch, Pete Holtus and Allen Jensen. The following is a link to an article about the symposium. The 2005 Symposium was held on April 1st -3rd featuring Jerry Brownrigg, Andi Wolfe and Alan Lacer. The 2004 Symposium was held on April 2nd - 4th featuring Bob Rosand and Dick Sing. The 2003 Symposium was held on April 25th - 27th featuring Trent Bosch and Pete Holtus. A 2002 Special one day fall demonstration was held on September 14th with Don Wattenhoffer demonstrating long stemmed goblets. The 2002 Symposium was held on April 12th - 14th featuring Lee Carter, Doug Schneiter and Curt Theobold. The 2001 Symposium was held on April 20th - 21st featuring Bonnie Klein, Russ Hurt and Alan Lacer. The 2000 Symposium was held on April 7th - 9th featuring Alan Lacer and Russ Hurt. The 1999 Symposium, which was the first held by the Dakota Woodturners, was held on April 10th. Russ Hurt was the featured demonstrator and covered introduction to lathe turning, safety, and sharpening. He instructed classic and modified bowl turning. |
