Dakota Woodturners are involved in a variety of community outreach programs.
Some members of DWT spent time making pens and woodturning with students from the Bismarck Career Academy. In appreciation, they presented the items shown below
Members of DWT produce hundreds of spinning tops each year. At our public demonstrations, the tops are given away to kids. As each turner has a different method of making this project, there are many unique styles of tops produced.
Starting in 2014, DWT has joined the “Freedom Pen Project” which supports our troops. Members create highly polished hand turned pens that are donated to the servicemen and women of the North Dakota National Guard.
In this outreach program, we work with woodshop and industrial arts teachers of Bismarck & Mandan middle schools to give students a hands on woodturning experience with a lathe. The students are given guidance and training. By the end of the session, they leave with a completed project.
Making Memorial Vessels is a new project of Dakota Woodturners.
Members of DWT generously donate items to the Band Blast fundraiser for the Mandan Band Boosters. This includes silent auction and raffle items. The Dakota Woodturners original home was at the Mandan High School shop.
